DmitriKourliandski

Dmitri Kourliandski, born in Moscow in 1976, studied composition at the Moscow Conservatory with Leonid Bobylev. Since 2022 he has lived and worked in France.

Dmitri Kourliandski’s music is presented at international festivals, including Donaueschinger Musiktage, Ruhrtriennale, the Venice Biennale, Holland Festival and Milano Musica. His works are performed by the SWR Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre national de Lyon, musicAeterna, Ensemble intercontemporain, Contrechamps, Schönberg Ensemble, MCME, N'Caged, Vacuum Quartet and Quatuor Diotima, among others.

Kourliandski is the recipient of the Gaudeamus International Composers Award, the Gianni Bergamo Classic Music Award, the Johann Joseph Fux Opera Composition Competition Prize and the Franco Abbiati Prize. His scores are published by Donemus and Éditions Jobert / Henry Lemoine.

In 2008, Kourliandski was a guest of the Berliner Künstlerprogramm of the DAAD, and in 2025–2026 a Fellow of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin. Alongside his work as a composer, he teaches, gives lectures, and leads seminars and masterclasses in various countries.

In works ranging from chamber and orchestral music to opera, electronics and installations, Kourliandski develops the idea of “objective music”: music understood not primarily as narrative, but as an object, spatial situation or environment in which listening itself becomes a form of creative practice.
